My great, great, great-grandfather was Randolph McCoy. Randolph was said to be a more introverted, thoughtful and sometimes sullen man. He was said to be tall, perhaps over six foot. He was a man of intriguing contrasts. Despite his historical reputation as a man possessed of a fiery temperament, he was also a farmer and family man. “His features wore a kindly expression. He was quiet in his talk, and one of the most hospitable citizens of Pike County…he was brave, when necessity demanded it. He had demonstrated it on many occasions. But he was not, and never had been a bully, nor was he bloodthirsty.”
